How to join in

Streets Alive

1. DECIDE that your street will join in even if you are not quite sure how that will happen yet. The how will unfold later!

2. GET TOGETHER with 2 or 3 others as street contact people (makes it easier and more fun).

3. PLAN the initial Streets Alive event for your street. Fix the date, time and venue.

4. INVITATIONS - the easy way

Divide up the street to share the inviting among contact people.
Preferably invite everyone in the street - be inclusive rather than exclusive.
Some people prefer to use a 'neutral' venue for the get together - a carport, driveway or park.
You could even choose to host an event in your home, which can promote the next level of trust, providing the event is kept very simple. (Otherwise it promotes anxiety and pressure!)
Allow 10 days to 2 weeks lead time with the invitations. People lead busy lives.

	Helpful hints!
	Flyers by themselves are not very effective as invitations.
	Doorknocking and hand delivering invitations works really well.
	Don't try to do it alone - get a team together.
	Ask people to reply. It gives another point of connection.
	Keep an eye on the weather - have a backup plan!
	Wear name tags - it makes socialising easier.

5. CATERING - food and drink

BYO is a great principle - allow others to contribute.
Share the catering - except for tea and coffee - they are easier for the host to provide.
Make it clear on the invitation what people need to bring.
Keep it simple - low fuss, low mess, low cost.

6. CONFIRM the event and details with attendees just before the day - it adds another opportunity for contact.

7. FOLLOW ON ACTIVITIES - discuss these at the event to maintain the positive energy created in the street.
